With MS Awareness month coming up we wanted to make sure we kept our MS friends in the loop about great sources of information and services. We have worked with these groups for years and find their work uplifting, exciting, and helpful. Not to mention they are just great people!
AFFILIATES
Dr. Gretchen Hawley
Dr. Gretchen is a physical therapist and MS-certified specialist. Her Instagram account is full of helpful tips and information on MS. Her focus is on science-backed exercises that simultaneously rebuild and rewire neurological pathways while increasing muscular strength.
If this sounds interesting, check out her MSing Link program, which provides continual support to improve your MS at home through symptom- and goal-specific exercises, monthly updated exercise classes, educational videos explaining the science behind my approach and how to apply it in your everyday life, trainings from guest MS experts, and an accountability community with me and other members.
David Lyons of MS Fitness Challenge
David was diagnosed with MS at age 47. Him and his wife, Kendra founded the MS Fitness Challenge charity organization as a way for others to join them and fight this debilitating disease through health & fitness.
Their main focus is on fitness programs, such as 12 week fitness events; online training and educational programs; training camps; nutritional counsel; and ongoing motivation for all those who want to change their lives and successfully reach their health and wellness goals despite MS.
Kathy Young- FUMS
Rather than give you my summary, I’ll let Kathy do the talking… shes the funny one anyway…
“I’m not just living with MS—I’m talking back to it. I’m a patient who’s lost her patience with this disease. I’ve dealt with the symptoms, the flares, and the indignities that come with MS, and yet, I still find plenty to laugh about. My attitude? I tell MS exactly where to go, every single day. I give it the finger and say “FUMS” because that’s what it deserves. And I’m here to help everyone with MS feel empowered to do the same thing.”
Her weekly FUMS 6-Pack is an awesome newsletter, full of MS news, job opportunities, clinical trial information, and helpful product picks.
Dave Bexfield
In 2006, Dave Bexfield founded ActiveMSers.org, today one of the largest and longest-running MS blogs on the internet. While he has now discovered he has been misdiagnosed and wrote his memoir Sit down before reading on his experience, he has kept activeMSers website up, as it is a great source of information for anyone with disabilities.
Dave has excellent reviews of a wide range of products from walking aids and wheelchairs, to cooling vests. (ThermApparel’s UnderCool is a top performer by the way)
ThermApparel is a small business making big waves in heat sensitivity by designing the first lightweight, comfortable, invisible cooling vest, UnderCool. Check us out on our blog, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
