Not using your ThermApparel Cooling Vest or Cooling Gear during the winter months?

Wondering about proper storage? We've got you covered.

Even though it's cold outside you still can overheat when you exercise, shovel snow or play with the kids and your Cooling Vest will help your fatigue levels and cog fog attacks. But, if you just don't use your Cooling Vest during the winter months here is the best way to store it until you need it again.

Short Version - 30 sec.

Video Translation:

"Here's how to get the most out of your cooling packs during the offseason. Put them into a plastic bag, or  a plastic grocery sack. Then all you need to do is put them in the freezer.

Tip: make sure that they lay flat, otherwise they'll freeze in funny shapes. But, if they do, you just pop them into some warm water until they melt a little bit or get squishy, straighten them out, put them back in the freezer and then they are ready for you when the weather gets hot."

"Hi everyone, this is Julia. We're going to talk about how to store your ThermApparel Cooling Vest and Cooling Packs today. Now there's a couple of different ways that you can do it. The cooling packs are really awesome, they will refreeze in the fridge, the freezer, or ice water. But, if you're going to store it for long periods of time, or at the end of the season, the best thing to do is keep them in your fridge or your freezer, and you can just fold it up accordion style, like how it came to you in the box. My suggestion is just get a plastic grocery sack. Like that and just put it into your freezer.

Now, we do get questions about "Can I leave it in there (the fridge or freezer) for long term?" Yes, you can leave your cooling packs in the freezer or the fridge for very long periods of time. In fact, that's the best way to store it over the holidays, over the winter, or if you're not going to be using it for a period of time.

And then we get questions about the vest itself "Can I leave the garment in the freezer itself?" You can, it won't hurt the spandex or the mesh. It just kind of depends on the settings of where your freezer is. Sometimes you can get some frost burn or some ice crystals that build up on it. This is one that we've had in the freezer all year long, and it's in pretty good shape, it does have a little bit of freezer burn back here. That's because they didn't have it in a bag it was just sitting in the freezer itself.

So, when you're cooling packs are liquid, toss them into your freezer your fridge, keep them in their solid state and you'll get the best longevity out of them. And you can also just pop them into like a Ziploc bag, put them into your fridge and freezer and they can stay there for months at a time.

Now also take this into consideration: you don't have to keep your Cooling Vest in long-term storage over the winter. You can actually use it during the wintertime. Use it when you exercise. If you exercise in the house or if you go to the gym, or even when you're snow blowing. It gets really hot while you're shoveling the snow or skiing. We have people that use it while they're skiing.

So keep in touch. Let us know what you use your vest for and if you have any questions you can always reach out to us."

PREPARING YOUR COOLING PACKS FOR LONG-TERM STORAGE

  1. Take the Cooling Packs out of the Vest Garment.
  2. Put the Cooling Packs into a plastic bag. A plastic grocery sack or a Ziploc works great. (we have one customer who uses a plastic bacon box.)
  3. To keep your Cooling Packs in top condition, store them in your fridge or freezer. They can safely stay there as long as needed without any damage—this is actually the ideal way to store them when they’re not in use.

Question:

What if I don't have a plastic bag?

Answer:

You can store the Cooling Packs directly in the fridge or freezer without the plastic bag. However, the bag is useful for keeping all your Cooling Packs together so they’re easy to find and don’t end up sticking to a long-forgotten frozen treat in the back!

Question:

Can I use a box?

Answer:

Yes, you can use any container that works with your freezer or fridge.

PREPARING YOUR THERMAPPAREL VEST GARMENT FOR LONG-TERM STORAGE

  1. Remove the Cooling Packs (see above for cooling pack storage)
  2. Wash the UnderCool Vest Garment - either by hand or washing machine
  3. Air dry - don't use the dryer
  4. Store with your exercise clothing, swimsuits, or other summer attire so you will find it when warm weather arrives.

Question:

Can I leave my vest in the fridge or freezer?

Answer:

Yes, you can! The cold won’t damage the vest, but for long-term storage, it’s best to keep it in a bag to prevent it from absorbing freezer odors or getting freezer burn.

Tip:

Avoid using a hanger for long-term storage as it can cause the Vest Garment to stretch over time.

HOW TO GET YOUR COOLING PACKS OUT OF STORAGE FOR SUMMER USE

  1. Locate your Cooling Packs in the depths of the freezer or fridge. (This is also a good time to do a quick inventory of freezer food in preparation of BBQ season!)
  2. Check for frozen treats stuck to the Cooling Packs, then choose the appropriate course of action below.
  • No frozen treats attached - Slide them into your Vest Garment and you are good to go.
  • Yes, the frozen treat is attached - Rinse the Cooling Packs with warm water until all frozen treat residue is gone. Squish flat and refreeze your Cooling Packs (tip: try the plastic bag trick)

Question:

My Cooling Packs are in funny, lumpy shapes. What do I do now?

Answer:

If your Cooling Packs are in funny shapes - run them under warm water until they are squishy. Reshape to lay flat and refreeze. Wait 60 min. then slide them into your Vest Garment and you are good to go.
